Fit To Fight® founder Ryan Hoover stated in an introduction to the Edge Of Reality® counter-blade tactics course that he “doesn’t really like our knife defense work, I just like it better than everybody else’s.” The truth is, no program, no sytem, no amount of training can truly prepare you to fight someone with a knife. This has less to do with the weapon, which is plenty formidable given it can’t malfunction or run out of ammo, and more to do with the INTENT of the person holding it. This is someone who is willing to get very close and get very messy in an assault. Even threatening with a blade is lethal in the sense that it can do large amounts of damage in a split second, from any angle or from concealment.

In the Edge Of Reality® course, you will not learn a thing about ‘knife fighting’. This is because outside of very particular circumstances, the idea of ‘knife fighting’ or ‘knife defense’ is absurd. Imagine being required to learn an isolated, separate system in order to be prepared for arguably the most dangerous hand held weapon a human being can carry! With an imminent threat triggering a fear response in the body, the chaos of unwanted combat, and the suddenness of attack that usually comes with a bladed assailant, you DO NOT have the time or ability to access a data base of techniques and strategies you learned in a martial arts class.

The basis for Edge Of Reality® is the solid, underlying fighting principles taught throughout all of our curriculum. Utilizing these proven values via striking and grappling, we can contextualize what we usually train for the variable of a blade being in the mix.

This program will give you a higher critical level of understanding how your skills come into play with a deadly weapon. There’s really nothing outside the standard curriculum to add, aside from a training blade and some important information. However, this training will feel different and needs to be experienced to understand the scope of it’s implications!
